To help with sanding printed parts, I designed a small sanding block that is:
- Fully printed.
- Easy to print, with minimal support.
- Ergonomic, and suitable for sanding of many details.
- Easy to use, with no tools required to change sandpaper.
A 93 x 40mm [3.7 x 1.6"] piece of sandpaper is required (I recommend buying ⅓ sheets of sandpaper which are 230 x 93mm [9 x 3.7"]).
Printing Instruction
I printed in PLA with about 30% infill.
The Block requires support under the part with overhand.
Usage Instruction
This consists of three parts, the sanding block, and handle, and locking pin.
- Ensure that you have some sandpaper that is 93mm [3.7"] long, and about 40mm [1.6"] wide.
- Place the sandpaper around the block as shown below.
- Place the handle on top to hold the sandpaper.
- Slide in the locking pin in to hold everything together with a light press. Do not use too much force as the pin can get stuck, and only a light force is required to firmly hold the sandpaper.

Background
I wasn't happy with any of the sanding blocks available, as I wanted one that was fully printed, and can quickly and easily swap the grade of sandpaper.
The inspiration was based on using a wedge shaped pin to hold the sandpaper, as this would allow for a fully printed design. I then designed and printed several iterations, until I was happy that the parts were a good fit, easy to print, and resulted in a useful tool.
