This is a set of Shepherds whistles. All are quick, cheap prints

I normally use a brass shepherd’s whistle (pictured) to issue commands for my dog, but in this very cold weather the brass whistle is not very comfortable to use (although much superior in tone and carry distance).

I am happy with the performance of both 3DP whistles. These are ideal for cold weather use. This is also a good (& cheap) way into mastering a shepherd’s whistle and the more sophisticated and mutually rewarding commands that it allows you to develop with your dog.

Model A has a single 1.8mm hole, which gives a slightly higher pitch and a truer note, but less volume.

Model B has twin 1.8 mm holes, which gives a slightly lower tone, not quite as clean a note (as model A), but more volume for the same effort. The twin hole Model B is easier to blow.

Model C is a training (learn to use the) whistle with wings that help you position the whistle correctly in your mouth, otherwise it is the same as Model B (easier to blow but a slightly lower tone). Just rest the wings on the outside of the corners of your mouth for the correct position of the whistle in your mouth.

Instructions on how to blow a shepherd’s whistle are numerous on the net and don’t need to be duplicated here. Persevere, it will suddenly happen!

Made from PETG because it is both a food grade material and waterproof. I used non-pigmented PETG because this is going in your mouth and I wasn’t sure with regard the migration safety of any dyes used in pigmented PETG filament.

See the picture on the build plate. The BgCode for each incorporates support for the buttress plates and a brim to aid adhesion and stability when printing. The buttress plates are part of the STL, they are only attached by 0.5mm sections and can be easily cleaned off along with the support material. The STLs will require you to add your own supports & brim (recommended). The holes (including for a tether) do not need support.

The cleaner the print, the better the tone and the easier to blow. Worth making sure you are using good dry filament for this one.
