Somebody asked me if I could replicate the front plate of the AC control unit for a Eunos Cosmo since (as far a I have been told) there are no intact replacements for this unit anywhere available.
This was done as sort of a commission, sort of a favor, sort of a training exercise.
Since I definitely approve of people actually trying to repair their “toys” instead of just buying something new I gladly took on this request.
Loads of fun, bit of frustration but all this resulted in a quite convincing replacement.
There are some spots which have to be sanded in order to fit perfectly as well as work smoothly, but most of this can be done with sandpaper and / or hobby files.
Please note: about the holes for mounting the part into the car: while designed into the model, since I do not own one of these cars myself, they are based on second-party information. It is quite possible that they might require a bit of “relocation” with a drill or dremel-type device.
Additionally, the original part I measured came from a wrecked car and was partially broken so among other things it did not have the “ears” anymore.
As such I could not take any accurate measurements and they might be a bit off (again: sanding should fix this).
I would recommend printing the part in a more heat-resistant material like PET-G, ABS or ASA since it's probably gonna spend some time in a hot car, hopefully driving about in the sun.
PLA or similar might warp under these conditions.
I would not recommend printing in ABS.
Since some tolerances are quite tight the warping inherent in ABS might render some of the holes too tight
I had best success printing the part face-down on the build plate with supports only from the bottom.
Use a brim at your own discretion.
Included are also two of the buttons used in the panel.
These are just for testing, it's quite possible that they do not fit all that well.
However you should be able to make them work with a bit of effort.
