A while back, we bought a propagation kit from Etsy that had a wood/metal stand and 3 glass vases that got suspended in it, designed for propagating plants and looking nice.
As time went by, we broke a few of them. Now that we have a printer, we decided to try to print a replacement.
I modeled them both in SketchUp, so the sphere got faceted into a bunch of rectangles, but we kind of like the look.
Version 1 - [v1 was removed cause it started leaking water. I think it was the slicer/printer settings, not the model, but I didn't really like it anyway so, tis gone!] We tried to replicate the original glass shape, with a rounded buttom. It's on the left in the photo. It kept the rounded bottom, and needed some supports for the bottom-most part.
Version 2 - I made the base flat, so it can sit on the counter. Now you can place them down not in the stand when working on/with them. I think this is how we broke one of the original glass ones anyway. I also added some fillets, and kept the inside from having any sharp corners to make cleaning easier. This one printed without any supports.
I Printed both with clear PETG, pretty standard settings.
Update: printed two V2s now, and one of them is slowly leaking? Gonna try to figure out why… is it a design error? slice error? print error? idk, lmk if anyone figures it out.
