I just wanted to make a casing big enough to fit more modules than just the Heltec v3.

I made this casing in Fusion 360 because all the other casings I found did not fit MY needs and wishes.

Current features:

  • 2 Alternatives for mounting antenna (with plug for pressing/gluing into the hole not used)
  • Fits 1x 18650 battery of any sort. (Ultraslim model with CR123 size battery)
  • Use charging via Heltec device for now.
  • Power switch hole for dipstick switch
  • RC car switch on Ultraslim model

Needed hardware:

  • 1x Heltec V3
  • 1x Antenna
  • 1x 18650 battery
  • 1x original battery cable for heltec device
  • sma antenna connector
  • thin battery connectors (I used some nickel strips)
  • 4x 3mm(3x12mm) torx screws with countersink heads for the backplate.

I have the casing for 2x18650 batteries as well, this will also be uploaded here when finished.

This casing is work in progress atm, so changes WILL happen.

Hopefully it will fit others needs as well.

Printed everything with transparent PLA on my very customized Anet A8 based 3D printer (only the frame is original).

Slicer used is latest Prusa Slic3r, add STL file and split it into objects. (lazy way of putting everything onto the bed.

Print parameters used:

  • Extruder 210c
  • Bed 60c
  • 0.28 layers
  • Brim
  • 30% infill (Also rigid with 20%)
  • 3x vertial perimeters
  • 4x top and bottom solid layers

Some adaption must be performed to fit the Heltec v3 perfectly, at this moment it is a snug fit.

Plans for the case.

  • Has space for GPS module (will finish the mounting bracket/location when I get a GPS module.
  • Install a Q.C. module
  • Will add a mounting hole for a switch (dipstick switch) (done on new Slim 1x18650 case)
  • Make better slots for sliding in flat battery connectors and some locking mechanism for locking down the battery.
  • Add super small/slim speaker
  • Add hole for temp sensor etc. (if I need it at some point)

All my modifications on this case will be uploaded when/if I see that the mod is worth sharing.

Also, I will consider doing mods with the case if asked :)

Happy printing….

Edit:

  1. Added a slimmer model with Hole for Power switch.
  2. Added 9v Battery case (You will need a regulator like LM317BT and proper resistors or equivalent components to regulate voltage down to max 4.2v)
  3. Added Ultraslim model with CR123 sized battery, it needs a spring in one side.
  4. Added a modified Ultraslim model, can be modified from CR123 battery to Lithium battery  (absolute maximum 43x28x17mm it is possible to fit 2x Japcell JCLME103040 or 2x JH 802540P with some fiddling.)
