Over-engineered and totally unnecessary, but it was fun to design and…  Frickin lasers!

This uses a cheap pistol laser sight and some fresnel lenses from Amazon to make a laser beam alignment tool to straighten your handlebars.  Any picatinny mount laser will work if you only want a dot, but the lens holder for the beam will only slide onto on the laser linked below.  The lens holder has holes for a set screw to secure it to the laser, to allow access to the adjustment screws, and to the battery slot.

The handlebar mount has a “pin” on the back which you can use to center the mount to the stem.  Also included is a jig to test and adjust the beam, making sure it is “true”.  All parts can print on one plate and the 3mf file is set for a Bambu X1, created in OrcaSlicer.

Laser and lenses used:

Hardware needed:

  • M3x3x5 Heat set inserts (x3)
  • M3x6 flat-head (countersink) socket cap screw (x2)
  • M3x6 set screw (x1)

Assemble as shown below, once the lens faceplate is screwed to the lens holder body it will sandwich the lens in place.  You can loosen the screws and use a sharp pick or something to rotate the lens later if needed.

After assembly, use the jig to test the beam and make sure its straight before using on the bike.
