This model mimics the shape of a cell phone on one end (allowing you to attach it to the Open Ocular cell phone microscope adapter) and has a hole for a tripod screw hot shoe adapter on the other. It works for attaching lightweight point+shoot cameras (like small universities' intro to science courses like to mandate for students) to your uni-provided microscope, holding it much steadier than you could with your bare hands.

Printing

I printed this on a Bambu A1 mini with matte white PLA. You can probably get better strength with PETG, but I don't have any around at the moment.

This adapter requires that the hot shoe adapter be “baked in”. To that end, the .3mf file includes a pause at the start of the first layer that starts to cover the hole that you'll be pressing the adapter into. When the printer pauses, press the adapter in and make sure you can't feel it standing out - don't want your nozzle caught on the metal piece! - then continue the print.

If you adjust the speed/precision settings in your slicer, make sure to check that the pause is still at the right layer (i.e., that no layers below the pause layer cover the hole)!

Part compatibility

I used the hot shoe adapter from a 11" Chrom Lives magic arm off Amazon, but others should fit with a bit of finagling. If in doubt, measure your adapter, open the original f3d file and adjust the “Hot shoe shape” sketch.
