I'm new to this hobby, and it was interesting to see the community implode just as I was getting my feet wet. When Benchy's owners apparently chose to sink to a new low and shipwreck a classic test model, it felt like a breach of trust – so I'm sure we're all glad that they salvaged the situation.
As a beginner, doing a deep dive into CAD software had me underwater pretty quickly, but I managed to improvise this Titan Benchy, complete with a video game controller where the helm should be. Enjoy!
The main model is actually an aquarium bubbler. Hook up a standard airline, connect to an air pump, and watch it bubble from the thrusters on the back! It might be advisable to slip a few pebbles into the front pilot's cabin. There's plenty of room, and it could use the weight.
There's also a non-bubbler variant that looks a little better, imo. That's the version shown in the renders. All the photos are of the bubbler.
I printed my copy using:
- 100% infill (to help it sink)
- “Snug” traditional supports – plate only
- 0.1mm layer height
