Every collector of miniatures, scale models or LEGO kits knows that their hobby items attract dust like a magnet. Cleaning dust from miniatures becomes a tedious job, and probably the best way to avoid it is to protect your collection with some kind of enclosure. Such as one that you can build using the files from that model.

Additional Materials

You will need some additional materials to build the enclosure. For example, to build the variant from the photos above, you will require:

  • 4 sheets of 3mm plexiglass (530x310 mm, 530x200 mm, two 200x310 mm)
  • 6 M3 10mm screws
  • 6 M3 hex nuts

Though, it's up to you to decide which is gonna be the scale of the cover and what walls and corners configuration you prefer.

Printing STL Files & 3MF Files

STL files are are prepared for 3mm plexiglass sheets. To build the variant from the photos above, you will need to print:

  • 2 x Screw Corner with Handle (one of them is mirrored alongside X axis)
  • 2 x Screw Corner Clamp
  • 4 x Right Angle Corner Cover
  • 2 x  Corner Cover (one of them is mirrored alongside X axis)

Two 3MF files located in the 3MF folder contain all the models listed above already prepared for slicing.

Since PLA is known for bad performance in mechanisms relying on deformation and generally is more fragile than PETG, I recommend PETG to be used for that print, especially for corner covers since they are snap-fits.

Fusion Files & Customization

In case you want to use different plexiglass thickness or make corner clamps bigger I have included the Fusion 360 drawing file. Just open it in Fusion 360 and navigate to Modify → Change Parameters → Favorites. Here you will find parameters responsible for plexiglass thickness and general size of the corner clamps, just like some other parameters that might be useful.
