This was created for a college physics project assignment on electromagnetism. It works by charging a capacitor bank and discharging it across 2 copper rails and using Lorentz Force to accelerate the projectile.
Required Materials:
- Copper pipe/bar (Just make sure it's around 2mm thick)
- Neodymium Magnets (about 10pcs)
- Wooden Board (Any should work, or you could print it)
- Misc Wires
- Capacitors (I used these, but you can use your own and modify the design)
- 3-way switch
- Female Barrel Jack (Optional)
- Copper Braid or Aluminium Foil
- Super Glue (or any strong glue)
- Spring
Note:
The performance of this model is not optimal, as I have found out that the voltage and energy of the entire project are possibly too low. However, I could not test it at a higher voltage due to a lack of equipment.
Please feel free to edit and improve this model, as I have not had time to develop it properly, and please provide feedback as this is one of the few large scale models I have made.
