Update 2025-06-17: File "Cards Lid x3 for Option 1, x1 for Option 2.stl" is fixed.

This is my take on insert for retail version of Darwin's Journey.

Features of this insert:

  • No box lid lifting.

  • Box can be stored vertically or horizontally.

  • Every container has a lid.

  • Containers for common tokens, coins and markers are going in pairs, so that they can be put on the far sides of the table.

  • Every lid of container that is going on the table can be put under that container.

  • Every player has its individual container for their game pieces. There is also stamps display for faster stamp setup.

  • After some of individual game pieces are put onto the boards, empty compartments can be used through the game for storing coins and temporary knowledge tokens.

  • Easy setup:

    • All setup tiles are in separate containers (Beagle goals, special actions, correspondence and starting objectives).

    • Species tiles have their display holder.

    • Objectives are in the separate holder that is going right on the board.

  • There are few options for card holders:

    • a) for sleeved OR unsleeved cards,

    • b) for all cards together OR by the type of cards (crew, solo actions and solo difficulty).

My pictures are showing my build.

I am using simple cardboard for top spacer that is put over the main board, but there is a file for printing that top spacer. Also, I think that top spacer is probably not needed at all!

I have printed all my lids with 0 top and bottom shell layers, so that internal honeycomb infill is visible.

Museum tiles can easily be lifted from museum tiles display by pressing any side of the tile.

Also, I have color coded my containers:

  • blue, green, yellow and white are for individual players

  • brown ones are going on the table or main board

  • grey ones are for the setup purpose

  • black ones are never leaving the game box

Recommended printing setup is:

  • nozzle size 0.4

  • height of layer 0.2

  • infill 10%-15%

  • turn on snug support for containers (green container of mine was printed without support and there are visible bad artifacts on it).

Disclaimer 1: Compartment for correspondence tiles is a bit tighter on my picture. It is relaxed by 1 mm after I test printed mine.

Disclaimer 2: I do not use sleeves. I would like to hear some comments especially for those card holders.

Edit 2025-04-30: There is newer version of player's container, that can hold tent display too. Green container on my pictures is version 1 (with only stamp display). Yellow container is version 2 (with tent and stamp display). I kept both version in corresponding folders.

Edit 2026-01-24: I have corrected 2 files: "Coins Lid x2" and "Tokens Lid x2".
