Here are my mods

1. Camera holddown for standard M12 picam adapter
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reason this exists: because some people (including me) had problems to screw the M12 lens (F2.0/16mm) into a self printed part. Printing a fine M12 thread is a real pain or somthing for real sophisticated printers.

The solution: simply glue an existing threaded adapter into this modded camera_holddown for your PiFinder v3 (as of 5. Mai 2025).

The picam comes with a pre threaded adapter for M12. It is likely, you have one laying arount. You also will get these adapters very cheap from Eb… & Co. But then you might need to modify the distance.

Measurement:

The top of the thread should be 17 mm from the bottom of the camera_holddown  (for PiFinder V3).

The Original part is 17 mm squared and has a height of 10mm (5 mm socket, 5 mm thread). The necessary height for the PiFinder is met.I added 0,2 mm space around it, so you can simply glue it into the given adapter.

The Fusion 360 is provided. So feel free to mod.

2. Camera holddown, lens blend and cap for 16 mm F1.4 lens
------------------------------------------------------------------------

I use a c-mount adapter that cam with the camera (imx296) as mentioned in the PiFinder project. The imx296 mono is the default on. It uses as 16mm/F2.0 lens.

I saw a 16mm/F1.4 which is heavier, but also gathers much more light. Also, the C-mount is much more heavy and it is easier to focus.

This is the lens:

- 16mm, C-Mount, F1.4 (often also says “5MP” or “IR”).
