Summary:
I needed to replace some lost IKEAD VIDGA ceiling rail brackets but couldn't find a sufficiently optimized model ready made. I designed a new bracket from scratch using the measurements of a spare I found.
My reasons for redesigning the part are twofold:
- No supports required; increasing dimensional accuracy, strength, and ease of printing.
- When printed in the correct orientation, the layer lines are perpendicular to the force applied by gravity when the rails are mounted, significantly increasing their strength.
Print instructions:
- Print in the orientation provided in the .3mf.
- 0.2mm layer height with a 0.4mm nozzle.
- Max out infill/walls/surfaces.
- I printed mine with a brim though depending on your bed adhesion this may not be necessary.
- Wall generator: Arachne.
I designed the parts to be printed in ABS/ASA, but PETG should work. Though you may need to slightly decrease the scale to 99%-99.5% to compensate for the lack of shrinkage.
I highly caution printing the part in PLA due to the plastic's tendency to creep under load.
Mounting instructions:
Use the printed bracket in the same way you would the OEM part from IKEA.
I suggest doubling the number of printed brackets used to ensure the mounted rail doesn't fall.
