Description

As stated in the summary, this is a fixed wrench oganizer with 8 places. The design considers two types of manufacturing methods, each with it's own two variations:

  • 3D printed:
    • In 1 piece. Just print the part in one piece without posterior assembly required.
    • With M-F. Print the 3 pieces and glue them together. The assembly is made easy with tongue and groove type joints.
  • Laser cuted:
    • Without M-F. Cut the 3 pieces and glue them together. The assembly is made easy with tongue and groove type joints.
    • With M-F. Cut the 3 pieces and then glue them together.

In the case of wanting to make any 3 piece version (printed or laser cuted). You will need the following pieces and quantities:

  • x2 Side pieces
  • x1 Wall piece

There is no need to mention, that in order to be assembled, each piece must be from "the same family" that is to say that they must be from the same design group, each with or without its the joints in the right place.

As explained above, there are many options for constructing this design, but regadless of the choosed metod, we'll always achive the same part dimensions:

And here we have an isometric view:

And to finish with the overall dimensions, here are the dimensions of each part when it is in 3 pieces:

  • 3-piece model without joints (only laser cutted):
  • 3-piece model with joints (printed or laser cuted):

Print settings

Printed in PLA, without rafts or supports, at 0.2 mm resolution and 15% infill.

Depending in the printable variation chossen, we should print them in the following orientations:

  • For the one piece model:
  • For the 3-piece model:

Cutting settings

If you prefer to construct the design via laser cutting, you just need to nest the .dxf files.

As mentioned at the beginning, you will need three pieces in total. All of the should fit in a sheet wiht a minimun dimension of 165 x 220mm:

Make sure you cut the pieces from a 5mm thick sheet. The tongue and groove joint only works with that thickness.

To use a different sheet thickness without redrawing the joint, simply cut the jointless version. This version works regardless of the thickness of the individual parts.

Assembly

Depending on the version chosen, assembly could range from non-existent to just two steps away from being completed.

f you've already printed the one-piece version, you don't need to assemble it. However, if you'd like to finish the three-piece version, you can follow these steps:

  1. Clean the edges of all the pieces.
  2. Check the fit of the side pieces with the wall piece. If the pieces fit together properly, continue. If it's too tight, file the piece lightly until it fits.
  3. Glue the pieces in place. If you have tongue-and-groove joints, simply align them; if not, glue them so they don't stick out.

In the following gif, we can see the procedure for the two types:

  • 3-piece model without joints (only laser cutted):
  • 3-piece model with joints (printed or laser cuted):
