3D Printed Desktop Fan
The heart of this budget-friendly fan is the DC micro-motor ($3.40 CAD) and a 5V 2A ($7.60 CAD) power supply. As shown in the GIF, the motor will not draw the full 2A and is sufficient to generate a strong breeze. Before soldering, check to ensure to motor is wired correctly to generate a breeze in the right direction! Wires are passed through the hollow column into the main body where it connects to the toggle switch and the 5.5x2.1mm socket.
Full disclosure, there are two threaded holes in the motor, but I didn't have the required hardware to secure it in place… SO, the motor is held in place by friction in the motor mount.
NOTE: Before using the fan, check the following to ensure proper clearance:
- Fan is fully seated on the motor spindle and retained by the two M3X4 set screws. Both set screws should be used to balance the blade. The set screws are retained by M3 brass inserts.
- Ensure the motor is flush with the motor mount.
- Once assembled, check to make sure the fan blades turn freely.
