Overview:

To build the Stealth Press 1S, I bought a kit (for under €30 from Ali) and printed out all the parts I needed.

You can view and download the complete project 'Stealth Press 1S - heat set insert press' here.

However, I wanted to change two details, both of a cosmetic nature:

  1. cover for the MGN12H carriage - allows you to adapt the color to your individual design

  2. grooved ball bearing 4x18x8/7 mm with U-groove

Details on the cover for the MGN12H carriage:

I didn't like the color of the transition from the 'arm' part to the MGN12H carriage. The cover created matches the color of the carriage to the rest of the design. A simple modification, so there is not much more to tell.

Details on the deep groove ball bearing 4x18x8/7 mm with U-groove:

My kit, contained two deep groove ball bearings 5x19x6 mm with V-groove, which are perfectly usable, but only 6 mm wide. There is space in the ‘top handle’ for a 10 mm wide bearing, leaving a gap of 2 mm on both sides.

As I still had 4x18x8/7 mm deep groove ball bearings (type U624-2RS V1804) lying around, with a deeper U-groove, I chose these. However, these require a 4 mm axle respectively M4 screw instead of the intended M5 screw. I therefore created a small M5 to M4 diameter reduction tube and two washers to visually fill the 1 mm gap on the left and right.

[Update 11. January 2026] Alternatively, you can simply print out the Top-Handle-M4 remix instead of the original top handle part (top_handle_x1_r1s.stl). This saves you having to print out the two spacers (M5 to M4) and you won't need any threaded inserts either.

BOM:

In addition to the printed parts, you will also need.

Construction notes - if you use the Top-Handle-M4 part:

[Update January 11, 2026] If you print the Top-Handle-M4 part, a remix of the original Top-Handle part (top_handle_x1_r1s.stl), you save yourself the trouble of printing the two spacers (M5 to M4) and you don't need any threaded inserts either. For the axle for the deep groove ball bearings, you can simply screw in two M4x25 or M4x30 cylinder head screws. An M4 thread is already prepared in the remix.

Construction notes - if you use the original Top-Handle part:

If you want to use the original top handle part (top_handle_x1_r1s.stl), please note that the M4 screw requires a corresponding counter thread.

You have two options here:

  1. you reduce the intended thread in the ‘Top Handle’ from M5 to M4 size.

  2. or, you can do as I did and melt in an M4 thread insert. A bit fiddly, as there is not much space and you first have to enlarge the intended M5 internal thread to a hole with a diameter of approx. 5.5 to 5.6 mm.

As I had already printed out the ‘Top Handle’, I decided to use the M4 threaded insert. I used two Ruthex RX-M4x8.1 threads and melted them in flush. However, I would recommend the first option, because you don't screw the axle/screw in and out that often.

Happy 😊 creating usefull stuff 👍
