My Swiffer WetJet handle broke so I made a new one. The idea was to have minimal modeling effort and parts. It uses the original switch and leaves it exposed. My CAD screenshots show the microswitch with an arm, but the actual switch just has the button. I recommend printing with the blue faces touching the build plate. I used a mouse ear brim and tree supports. There are sacrificial built-in bridges on the clearance side holes for the switch that you will need to poke/drill through (~3.8mm). The handle attaches to the bar using M3x30mm BHCS. The rear of the handle uses M3x25mm BHCS. Voron M3x5 heatset inserts are in the bottom half of the handle. A small length of paracord can be added to a channel left around the rearmost screw. You won't need to desolder the switch.
Needed Hardware:
- 2X M3x30 BHCS
- 2X M3x25 BHCS
- 4X M3x5 VORON heatset inserts (other M3 inserts will work, but you will have to adjust the hole size)
- 2X M2x10 Self Tapping Screws (Same as on VORON kits)
- About 6" of paracord, ~3.5mm diameter
Installation process:
- Pull away any remaining handle pieces that didn't fall off during the break.
- Prep the handle top by drilling out the clearance side for the M2x10 holes. Make sure to no drill past center into the small side of the hole.
- Insert the microswitch with the button closest to the aluminum tube. The bump up of the switch should be almost flush with the handle top surface. Careful not to touch the contacts or the button because otherwise you'll have to take the batteries out. Work faster, not smarter.
- Place 2x M2x10 self tapping screws through the clearance holes in the top handle, through the switch and secure the switch. The screw head should be a tight fit with the clearance hole to help support the load.
- Prep the handle bottom by installing the 4X heatset inserts in the locations shown by the black arrows in the image. (CNC Kitchen's install tools and a Hakko FX-888 make this easy.)
- Push the extra wire into the aluminum tube as you align the top handle to the tube.
- Sandwich the length of paracord into the channel of the lower handle and push that together with the top handle.
- Use the 2X M3x30 BHCS on the front side (through the tube) and the 2X M3x25 BHCS on the rear side to tighten the handle halves together.
