I designed this part to adapt a standard ATV rubber boot on the steering column universal joint of my B9 A5. This joint is a weak component.
Printing: PLA 15% infill, .4 nozzle, 3 walls, manual supports on the surfaces shown on the pics.
Parts needed:
Universal joint boot kit Kimpex #058703;
O ring 20 x 2mm;
2 x M5 x 25 socket head bolts;
RTV silicon sealant;
Printed parts.
1- Remove the universal joint from the steering rack;
2- Insert the o ring on the column (you may have to cut it);
3- Put some RTV silicon sealant in the o ring groove and the assembly face of the printed parts;
4- Install the printed parts over the o ring an secure them with the bolts;
5- Insert the boot on the steering rack shaft;
6- Put back the universal joint on the shaft;
7- Fill the boot with the supplied grease and slide it over the printed part;
8- Install the supplied straps.
Note: I made mine in PLA but it's free to use another material. ABS or ASA would be great too if you have the printer for.
