I wanted to make a decoration of the E5 for my desk, which I thought would have a model available due to its popularity…
To my surprise, there was not!
only paid models for a large amount of money (sometimes over 70 USD!)
So I made my own! It's not entirely accurate, but I can say it is at the least dimensionally accurate. I based it off of drawings of the cab cross section, and enthusiast's photos of the train. I do not have experience in blender, so this was done in Fusion 360. This means that the geometries around the nose of the train, specifically the wheel housings in this area, were ridiculously hard to model. This is where the main inaccuracies are. Either way, it should look like the E5 to all but the keenest eyes!
If you feel inspired by this, and have blender skills, let me know! I would be happy to update the description and link a more accurate model of this train.
This was designed to be printed in a vertical orientation, to minimize layer line visibility. The only support needed are for the wheels and pantograph, I recommend using tree supports for this.
I have provided several tolerances of the connector piece, as well as one without a tolerance if you want to make a custom tolerance.
A full train consists of 2 end units, 2 pantograph cars, and 6 regular cars.
Enjoy, and please post your makes, I love to see my models being used!
