A spiritual successor to the Magpul AFG 2, the 20 degree grip as well as the front and rear hooked ends take inspiration from their original design.

As a big fan of the original, I've always wanted to improve on two specific things - length and texture of the grip.

I typically fall into the ‘XL’ category of glove size, and always find that with the original AFG I was always wrapping my forefinger around the front of the grip due to a lack of space in between. For my version I increased the length a half slot. For shorter hand guards, I purposely left off any forward indexing lugs at the front of the grip, allowing it to stick out past the bottom of a hand guard.

For the texture, I always like an abundance of grip and sought to greatly increase the traction of my AFG as well as visually set it apart from it's inspiration.

Lastly it is a little narrower than the original, for better compatibility / fitment with MLOK panels placed on adjacent 45 degree surfaces. I intend on making one that's also closer to the original width as panel fitment isn't always a concern.

Recommended print settings

For anything that will see some stress, I generally recommend a minimum of four perimeters. For infill, I used 25% rectilinear for it's density. Set the grip facing MLOK side on the plate and support the flat area above it. I wouldn't bother supporting the inside of the small MLOK eyelets.

Any material shy of TPU or a silk filament should be plenty durable. For my own use, I used PET-CF. Alternately I like ASA for a lot of things.

Hardware

Since I'm cheap I used some Amazon hardware to attach this and several other little MLOK things I've been designing and printing. You can purchase them here - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D1CPJWF6?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

Naturally, you can use genuine Magpul MLOK hardware.

8/16/25 Update: Added a ‘wide’ model, sized more closely to the original in width, as well as a picatinny version with the pass through holes removed.

The picatinny can be attached with an M4 x 25 and nut. I had a socket head type laying around but that sticks out somewhat. Would recommend a button head for a less obtrusive fitment. You'll need to be sure the M4 nut is pressed completely into place in order for the bolt to reach it. I recommend setting it into place, and then putting it nut side down on a table and leaning on it to force it into place. When installed, the threads of the bolt will not protrude from the other side. Support wise just print it with the grip facing up and support the bottom. The holes don't really need support.
