I  needed a small but tough case to carry some semi-heavy items in so I designed this. I put the rad motif on them just to have some fun.

This model was  designed to be used for carrying benign, non-hazardous items only!

The model prints in three parts: Case, handle and lid. The handle and lid are assembled per instructions below.

I recommend this model be printed in PETG or some other material that is tougher and has higher heat resistant qualities than PLA for safe outdoor use. And I HIGHLY recommend you dry your filament and have it dialed in for your printer to achieve the best results. There may be some stringing in the thread of the case. Carefully trim those off after printing.

Assembly:

  • After printing the lid and handle, install one threaded insert into each of the holes in the bottom of the handle. Be sure the insert are straight and flush with the  bottom of the handle. Let cool
  • After the inserts are completely cool, insert the bolts through the non-striped side of the lid and screw them into the threaded inserts in the handle. Do not fully tighten the bolts until all four are mostly screwed in then tighten all four. Warning!! Do not over tighten the bolts! See pictures.

The handle and lid have been modelled to use the hardware below

4 X M5 x Quality Parts 20mm Metric Phillips Bolts Brass Flat Head Countersunk

4 X knurled Insert Nuts, 60Pcs M5 x 8mm L x 7mm OD 3D Printing Brass Nuts Female Threaded Inserts Brass Heat Set Insert Embedment Nut.

Warning: If you have not used threaded inserts before, they are not hard to use but need to be done with care. I used a simple soldering iron to do mine so, while ideal, no special tool is critical to use threaded inserts.
