As part of setting up your Brompton folding bike for a ride you need to set the saddle position every time. A saddle height insert (one ships with the bike) allows you to fix the saddle height so it is in the correct place every time you unfold the bike.

The longer the insert, the lower you can fix the height of the saddle. The insert that comes with the bike (150mm) is just a bit short for my wife so she's guessing the saddle height every time she takes the bike out.

This model fixes that problem by making an insert longer than the original. The Brompton original was designed to be cut with scissors, but mine is printed in PETG which doesn't cut so easily. Therefore, I have included variants in 5mm increments from 155mm to 200mm.

To find the right one:

  1. Set the saddle to your desired height for riding.

  2. Mark where the seat post enters the bike frame (into the Post tube).

  3. Pull the saddle up to its maximum height.

  4. Measure the distance from the mark you made on the seat post to the top of the cross member. That is the total length of Saddle Height Insert you will need. Note: A Saddle Height Insert is measured from its bottom edge to the tip of the tab.

To fit it:

  1. Remove the saddle from the Seat post.

  2. Loosen the seat post clamp and let the seat post drop out of the bottom of the seat post tube completely.

  3. Insert the Saddle Height Insert into the top of the Post tube guiding the tab into the slot. Push the tab down its slot until it can go no further and the lower part of the Insert also clicks into its own recess.

  4. Re-insert the Seat post from the bottom, it should slide freely. Lock it off and refit the saddle - which should now be at the desired ride height.

I printed it vertically in PETG with Supports for the overhanging lip of the top tab. It is important this has a clean sharp edge as it is what prevents the insert falling out of the seat post tube.
