If you use Boox tablets, you probably know the free stylus they include has a reputation for breaking apart sooner rather than later. That’s exactly what happened to me. Luckily, the core part of the stylus stays intact, so I designed a printable replacement housing for it.
How to remove the original housing:
- Take off the back cap of the stylus (marked “X”).
- You’ll see a tiny Phillips-head bolt. Unscrew it.
- The core should slide out easily—as long as the front end has broken off (which is usually the case).
- Don’t lose that bolt! Once the core is removed, screw the bolt back into the end of the core. Depending on your print tolerances, you may need to loosen it slightly so the stylus tip sticks out far enough.
Important printing notes:
- Don’t use supports. They’ll either be a nightmare to remove cleanly—or simply impossible.
- Before sliding the core into the printed housing, check that there are no tangles or leftover strings inside. Depending on how bad it is, either push them through with an Allen key or just reprint the housing.
- The model looks like a rocket—this is intentional! It stabilizes the print since the part is tall and narrow.
- I used translucent PCTG filament, mainly because I was too lazy to swap spools. You can of course print in whatever filament you like.
