This is a tool used to rekey a Kwikset Smartkey lock that you do not have a working key for. It works by depressing the five sliders simultaneously which then allows you to turn the cylinder a quarter turn. You can then use the Kwikset pokey tool to “reset” the sliders and insert a new key, turn it, and now you've rekeyed the lock. It works similarly to a tool that works better than the cradle that kwikset sells. If you google “better smartkey resetting tool” you can find a link to that product and youtube videos showing you how to use it. That tool is better and if you're resetting a lot of locks you should buy it. But this one works great for occasional use and takes only a few minutes to print.
If you don't have the Kwikset pokey tool you can make one by hammering/sanding about 8mm of the end of a paperclip until it is about 0.5mm thick.
I have reset many Smartkey locks using this tool, but i have never used a commercially availble reset tool. Please let me know how it works for you, including any suggestions for improvements. thanks
