This is a seed starter with an easy-eject system to allow you to check the plant's roots and remove it when it's ready to re-plant. As you can see from the pictures, the plants develop a healthy root system in the planter without binding to it, so you can just pop the whole thing out and drop it into its new home.
To make it work, put the slide into the planter before filling with your soil or other medium and then use the planter normally. Once you're ready to remove the plant, press the slide up like a push-pop. The plant and its whole root system should come out cleanly.
