Over the last year, I've collected a few of the US General minitoolboxes to hold some of my 3D printer accessories and some hand tools. I looked online at some of the different options to stack two or more on top of each other, and didn't like the fact that you lost the storage in the very top compartment of the bottom box when you did this. I wanted to utilize as much space as possible, so I designed a “large” drawer stacker that allows two or more boxes to be stacked while providing almost the same amount of storage as the large drawer of the toolbox.
I used Sunlu PETG with a 0.4mm nozzle on my X1C using the "0.20mm Strength" preset and default Sunlu PETG settings.
Exceptions: For the drawer, I used normal snug supports, and for the left and right plates, I used default tree supports. For the handle cover, I used a 0.16mm layer height.
I had to be creative to be able to print this on my X1C since the width of the toolbox is outside the build volume of the printer. The way I designed this and printed it, the project takes 5 plates (Back and Side Plates, Front Plate, Drawer, Handle Cover, and Mat Template). I used heated threaded inserts and fasteners to put everything together, as well as using purchased drawer slides.
Project Totals:
Filament: 580 grams (estimated from slicer)
Print Time: 17 hrs. 20m (estimated from slicer)
I've included the assembly instructions in a PDF format for download as well, which includes links to the hardware I used.
I look forward to seeing this utilized by others, and please let me know what you think.
