Dehydrator height extensions to make a filament dryer. I set the temp to 40 degrees and can get my humidity down to about 16%. Be careful - high temperatures can melt your PLA.

This model suits a round dehydrator tray that has up to a 2mm wall thickness of tray with an outer diameter of 136mm.

They suit a humidity gauge that's 45w x 26h (with a bezel that's wider and sits on top). I got mine here.

DISCLAIMER: the dimensions listed seem incorrect (I think because it includes the bezel), they all seem to be the same size, but it's not my fault if it doesn't fit or they change them between now and when you bought them, so maybe buy 1 first and test.

I've tried to make these really robust. The ones in the photo look rough - but they're printed at 0.4mm layer height with a 0.4mm nozzle and with the speed cranked up as much as possible. They look way nicer when you're not rushing them. They take about an hour per piece. They'll happily print at 5% infill as long as you check the first layer for adhesion (0% should also work but haven't tried, at max extrusion and max speed.

The version without the gauge holder prints with no supports. The version with the gauge holder uses supports on the upper side of the humidity gauge hole (It might print without but I haven't tried). Print them in the orientation they come in (curved part of the dovetail at the bottom). It won't need any other supports.

I have provided you 4 files:

  • The regular divers with and without the gauge hole:

    • 48mm in height (provides 38mm height extension)

      • spacer_withTempHole.stl

      • spacer_noTempHole.stl

  • Dividers for the top tray to connect to the lid (this needs an inner lip rather than an outer one)

    • 40mm in height (provides 30mm height extension)

      • spacerThicker_noTempHole_Lid

      • spacerThicker_withTempHole_Lid

  • Divider for the top tray to connect the lid - shortest possible but not compatible with a temp gauge)

    • 31.5mm in height (provides 21.5mm height extension)

      • spacer_noTempHole_Lid_extraShort

Enjoy!
