This allows larger and non-round workpieces to be clamped in the 3-jaw chuck.
The workpiece is fastened with end-face screws - see photos (don't forget the hidden screws during CNC setup/programming :) - and clamped into the chuck on the surfaces of the hexagon.
The disc can also be used on the tailstock side.
