As a CAD modelling exercise, I wanted to see if I could make a 2 speed ratcheting winch. In this design, one direction ratchets the winch directly, while the other uses gearing to ratchet with a mechanical advantage.
The tolerances are a little finicky, so the CAD file is available on onshape.
In a real capstan winch, there is an internal structure all the way up, allowing a static cap that has a rope feeder, but this was too complicated in this version.
For the handle, I just used an old ikea hex wrench I had lying around. The model is parametric though, so you could adjust this.
