This modular rack system is designed for users who need a flexible, sturdy, and clean housing for their networking gear, lab equipment, or home server components. By combining 3D printed vertical segments with standard 2020 aluminum extrusions, you can build a rack tailored to your specific depth and width requirements.

Key Features

  • Infinite Scalability: Add "Middle" segments to increase the height in 1U increments.

  • Easy Printing: All parts are designed to be printed easily without any supports, saving you material and post-processing time.

  • Sturdy Design: Uses 2020 aluminum profiles for the depth, ensuring the frame won't sag or twist.

  • Standard Hardware: Designed for M6 screws and nuts, which are widely available and provide excellent clamping force.

  • Flexible Width: Use aluminum profiles for the width to make it a standard 10" rack, or define the width using the rack panels themselves.

The 3 Printed Components

The system consists of only three unique parts:

  1. End Piece (1U + 20mm): Includes mounting point for the 2020 profile.

  2. Mirrored End Piece (1U + 20mm): A mirrored version.

  3. Middle Segment (1U): Use as many of these as needed to reach your desired U-height.

Note: The end pieces are extended by 20mm to accommodate the 2020 aluminum profile thickness.

Required Hardware (BOM)

  • Aluminum Profiles: 4x 2020 Extrusions (Length depends on your desired rack depth).

  • Screws: M6 x 12mm (For connecting printed parts and mounting to profiles).

  • Nuts: Standard M6 Nuts.

  • (Optional): 2020 profiles for the width if you prefer a rigid frame without panels installed.

Assembly Tips

  1. Sandwich the Middle Segments between the Top and Bottom end pieces.

  2. Secure the vertical assembly to the 2020 aluminum profiles.

  3. If building a "floating width" rack, ensure your equipment panels are sturdy enough to maintain the rack's geometry.
