🦖 What is a Velociraptor?
Name: Velociraptor mongoliensis
Era: Late Cretaceous (about 75–71 million years ago)
Home: Central Asia — modern-day Mongolia and China
Group: Theropod dinosaurs — small, fast, meat-eaters
Velociraptors were small but smart predators, famous for their speed, sharp claws, and surprising intelligence. Unlike their movie versions, real Velociraptors were about the size of a turkey — but they were still very effective hunters.
🦕 Appearance & Personality (if dinosaurs had personalities!)
Body: Slim, lightweight, and built for speed and agility
Head: Long snout with sharp teeth for slicing meat
Arms: Long arms with grasping hands and curved claws
Legs: Strong hind legs with a large sickle-shaped claw on each foot
Tail: Long and stiff, used for balance while running and jumping
Feathers: Covered in feathers — especially on arms and tail
Temperament (playfully speaking):
Velociraptor was the “clever trickster” of the dinosaur world — quick-thinking, alert, and always planning its next move. It likely hunted in clever ways, using speed and teamwork rather than brute force.
🌿 Lifestyle & Habitat
Diet: Carnivore — small dinosaurs, reptiles, and animals
Activity: Active during the day
Movement: Fast runner with excellent balance and agility
Environment: Deserts, plains, and open forests
💡 Fun Paleontology Facts
🦴 Velociraptors were feathered, not scaly like in movies.
🧠 They had relatively large brains for dinosaurs — a sign of intelligence.
👣 Their famous curved toe claw may have been used to pin prey rather than slash.
🐓 They were closer in size to modern birds than to giant dinosaurs.
🔍 Fossils show evidence of feathers, including quill knobs on the arms.
