A yarn spinner allows a yarn-crafter (knitter or crochet) to pull more yarn out of a skein of yarn more easily. I originally remixed the model to added a new design. But then we had some prototypes break when dropped (the inner shaft would snap off), so I added a 1/8" metal shaft to the design that I cut to length with a Dremel.
The full design prints in 4 parts. The base, the outer shaft are the only parts required to function. I printed the base with a 50% fill level for added strength after breaking the prototypes. The atom top plate is really just a nice addition for aesthetics. I painted the electron and nucleus. The penny hole covers give a clean looking bottom surface if you glue them in after filling the holes with pennies for weight. I also added soft foam cabinet bumpers to the bottom make it nonslip.
See the picture of the bottom for placement of the nonslip bumpers, the penny hole covers, and the metal shaft.
