02 Feb 2026, All things in place ... only a bit of programming to do using Home Assistant and ESPHome

29 Jan 2026, So… now almost half of the staircase is fixed. The other half is a bit trickier, but it’ll work out… I’ll get back to you when it’s done!

Why I made this?

Well, I'm going to light up the stairs to the upper floor and the LED strips will be under each step. It's an ongoing project and the idea is that I'll have a motion detector upstairs and one downstairs and thus light up the stairs if you go up or down. Not finished yet, just in the idea stage, but I'll report the process here.

But I think it's good to publish all the printable parts now so you can take advantage of it. It will be a 12V RGB strip that I'll divide per step but with jumper cables in between. We'll see how it turns out.

The parts where the LED lights will shine through are printed with PETG Clear and the other parts in PLA.

All the parts that need to be put together are tight but there shouldn't be any problems.

I hope you like it and your imagination is the limit!

I have ordered double-sided 10 mm tape that I will put on the details that needs it.

Remember that many of the .stl files need to be rotated to be printable and some also require supports!

Some of the objects may be too large for your printer, so you can ignore them. For example, there are 50 cm strips and they do not fit on most common printers.

I have also made a number of different mounting clips that you can use. You can use countersunk wood screws, e.g. 3x16mm or smaller.

You can use it for LED strips or for strips where you want to hide the wires.

Printed rails and covers for the 12 steps. (2 under each step)
