Here is another type of cable winder. Three different sizes available in small, medium & large. These are modeled after a standard electrical fish tape housing & operate the same way. They are a 4 piece designs with some hardware & assembly required. In photos the medium one has a hexagon pattern but uploaded version is smooth. Small one has a standard 3' USB A to C cable in it. The medium one has a 6.5' USB C to C cable in it. The large one has a 6.6' display port cable in it.

Update 01/27/26 - Revised small winder. I thickened the inner ring width so the 4 - M2 screws don't protrude from ring and bind on the outer housing. In turn I thinned the wall of the outer housing so operation remains smooth.

Update 02/07/26 - Revised medium winder in the same way as the small one.

Printing:

Lay all flat surfaces on the bed. Some support needed for inner handle pieces to allow smooth operation. very little & easy to break away. Print in any material. I printed in PLA+ with 4 perimeters & 25% cubic infill.

Inner cable storage housing dimensions:

Outside diameter x Inside diameter x Height x cable diameter max.

Small - 68x44x13.5mmx4mm

Medium - 91x59x18mmx4mm

Large - 136mmx88x27mmx6mm

If any dimensions are not quite right for your cables Let me know in the comments & I can upload revised designs.

Hardware required:

All flathead (countersunk) machine screws. Necessary for inner portion to slide inside outer housing. All readily available from Amazon, AliExpress etc.

Small - 7-m2x10mm (inner portion), 4-m2.5x10mm (outer housing)

Medium - 7-m2.5x10mm (inner portion), 4-m2.5x14-18mm (outer housing)

Large - 11-m3x20mm (all parts)

Assembly:

  1. Fasten inner portions together with machine screws.

  2. Fasten outer housing around inner portion.

  3. Make sure all screw heads are on the same side when assembled so the handle & housing holes line up correctly for cable insertion.

Operation:

Simply line up the hole in the handle portion with the one in the outer housing, insert the cable end into the center & wind away! No sharp bends or pinches on the cable. To unwind hold by the handle & pull the end of the cable out.
