Shoji lantern,  warning (needs some knowledge of electrical wiring) , best used as mood light or night light .

Colours used : black, white and red, or what ever you feel like.  I used PLA on a prusa XL  multi tool head and the project will also fit on a bed size of 21cms by 22cms.  If you don't have a printer that can do multiple colours then just use the “lantern sides normal”(1-4), the “lantern sides sunset part1 and 2”)  require something like an mmu or a multi head printer.  I have supplied the .3mf files i used to print the lantern. The first 2 layers of the sides are printed at 0.15 layer height have to be a translucent colour like a white or an off white, and then a colour change to black works best.

For example to print  the  “sunset sides”  in prusa slicer just import "lantern side1 sunset part1" and "lantern side1 sunset part2" as multiple object that treated as a single object . Use the 2nd head 2 to print the sun.  after 2 layers set up prusa slicer to do colour change on print head 1 to black.  you can check the 3mf file,  how i  did it , or  maybe you can find a better way.

Glue as needed , but bear in mind that at some point you will need to change the bulb so “lantern top cover brace” can be glued to “ lantern top translucent sheet “ but then this unit should  be push fit and not be glued in place.

If you need the lantern to cast more light than ignore the top and bottom translucent sheets

Assembly order:

Make sure you do a dry assembly run before doing any gluing

Also view the animation supplied  in the 'other files' section.

1: insert  all the  "lantern upright x4"  into “lantern base” on its side making sure you insert the legs with the tabs pointing to the base and the cut outs(for the main sides) along  the edges pointing to the middle of the base. The base should have its channeling facing the legs  .

2: flip unit upside down with base pointing up , glue “lantern base legs” onto “lantern base”

3: turn  unit right way up  , place “lantern bottom translucent sheet “onto the shelf in lantern base”

4: insert “lantern bulb holder crossmember” over the translucent sheet in the base and push into place, use a drop of glue in each corner.

5: insert the  “bulb holder” on to the cross member after applying glue to the appropriate parts  of the cross member.

6: nows the time to do the wiring ,  its designed for a cord grip bulb holder I used one similar to this . https://www.wickes.co.uk/MK-Cordgrip-Bulb-Holder---White/p/107335

Just going to point out that I take no responsibility for your wiring!  Also the bulb is best kept to a low wattage led 1-5 watts.

7: insert sides making sure they are pushed all the way down and are sitting correctly in the uprights.

8: push the “lantern top brace” onto he four uprights making sure the flat side is pointing up , tap it down till it seats into the sides,  a  few drops of  glue will secure it (not really needed here)

9: glue lantern top translucent sheet into “lantern top cover brace” making sure you glue into the side  with the recess(just need a few drops.

10: let it all dry . Insert  the cover on to the uprights and seat.

11: smile!
