This is a parameterised (OpenSCAD) model for creating different specimen sampling trays suitable for sorting invertebrate samples from Malaise traps, pitfalls, soil samples, etc. under a microscope or camera.
The size and number of cells, along with the slope of the walls, the heights of ridges and tickmarks is fully customisable in the OpenSCAD file.
Seven example trays are included as STL files:
Tray with eight lanes each just over 1 cm in width
Tray with 36 2cm square cells and 1 cm tickmarks
Tray with 100 1cm square cells and 2 mm tickmarks
Tray with 16 deep 3cm square cells
Tray with 12 deep 3cm square cells surrounding a 6cm square cell
Tray with 36 2cm square cells marked only with tickmarks at the intersections
Tray with 3 x 2 cells of correct size for imaging under a specified Leica microscope and objective (example image shown)
I have been printing these in PETG at various qualities, including using top-surface ironing to give a smoother appearance.
