The Drain Drill is conceived as a simple system of replicable components, powered by a common electric drill, and employs a hacking design approach to reduce costs, technical complexity, and adoption barriers.

Required Components (see available images)

  • Threaded rod: 50 cm in length.

  • Hydraulic pipe: 5 cm diameter and 15 cm length.

  • 3-way hydraulic coupling: T-joint pipe with a 5 cm diameter.

  • Screws: 8 self-tapping screws (1.5 cm length, 0.5 cm diameter).

  • Bolts & Nuts: 4 sets (2 cm length, 0.5 cm diameter).

  • Metal insert: 18 mm outer / 10 mm inner diameter.

  • Outlet pipe: Flexible corrugated pipe or vacuum hose (5 cm diameter).

Assembly Steps

  1. Impeller Setup: Insert the threaded rod into the impeller and lock it with the nut.

  2. Base Assembly: Place the assembled part into the base. Insert the central component, ensuring proper alignment.

  3. Securing: Fasten the base components using the four bolts and nuts.

  4. Main Body: Mount the short tube onto the central component using four self-tapping screws. Position the T-joint coupling on top.

  5. Cap & Drill: Insert the metal insert into the cap. Secure the cap to the coupling with the remaining four screws.

  6. Operation: Connect your power drill chuck to the threaded rod. Submerge the base in water and operate at high power to begin draining.

Pro Tips

  • Sealing: Use gaskets or multi-material glue to minimize leaks and secure parts.

  • Pre-drilling: Drill small pilot holes into the pipes to make driving the screws easier.
