MGN12H 400mm for linear rail upgrades and Voron build modelling

MGN12H

An MGN12H is a compact linear‑motion carriage designed to run on an MGN12 miniature linear rail. It’s part of the Hiwin‑style “MGN” series commonly used in 3D printers, CNC machines, and small automation systems.

Key characteristics

• Rail size: 12 mm wide

• Carriage type: H‑block (long body)

• Load capacity: Higher than the shorter “C” block due to longer bearing spacing

• Motion system: Recirculating steel ball bearings

• Preload options: Usually light preload for hobby use

• Material: Typically stainless steel or chromed steel depending on manufacturer

• Mounting: Tapped holes on top of the carriage, countersunk holes on the rail

Why it’s used in 3D printers

• High stiffness for its size

• Smooth, low‑friction motion

• Good for X‑axis and Y‑axis gantries

• Handles cantilevered loads better than the shorter MGN12C

• Compact enough for lightweight motion systems

Common applications

• CoreXY printers (Voron, RatRig, custom builds)

• CNC toolheads

• Camera sliders

• Small automation rigs
