Finally got water meters installed. I already track power usage on Home Assistant and wanted to add water as well.

The water supply company installed a B-meters GSD8 meter, which seems to be popular in central and eastern Europe.
Did a little research and I found that you can track water usage for these with an inductive proximity sensor. I wanted to use something shorter than that tube sensor, so I chose a 5V SN04 N1 sensor. All else I needed was an ESP32 and a couple of resistors.

The mount uses notches on the meter, so you need to push it on the meter and then twist to lock it in place.

Additional parts:

Example ESP Home code.
To have persistent values, use the Home Assistant Utility Meter helper.
Wiring example.

The final model got flipped upside down, so please flip it 180 degrees before printing.
Printed in PLA:

  • 0.2 mm layer height;

  • 2 wall layers;

  • 20% infill;

  • No supports.
