Ever wondered how to keep a solar-powered mesh node running high in a tree canopy without worrying about which way the sun is shining? In this video, I build a custom 360-degree solar tree node designed to stay charged and connected no matter how much it spins in the wind. This project solves the common problem of directional solar panels by wrapping the node in multiple cells to catch light from every angle.

🚀 Build Overview

We are using the Seeed Studio nRF52840 with the SX1262 radio for its incredible power efficiency, making it the perfect choice for a solar-powered setup. I walk you through the entire build process, from waterproofing the 3D-printed enclosure with silicone to wiring three solar panels in parallel to ensure constant charging. You will also see how to integrate a simulated MPPT charge controller, a high-capacity 18650 battery, and a specialized breather plug to manage internal moisture and prevent condensation.

🛠 Key Features

The design features a rugged hook for easy hoisting into tall trees and an SMA pigtail for attaching high-gain antennas. After the hardware assembly, we jump into the software side to flash the latest Meshtastic firmware and configure the node using the mobile app. Whether you are looking to extend your mesh network range or build a reliable off-grid repeater, this tree node design offers a durable and efficient solution.
