This model represents the Great Lakes using real-world bathymetric data sourced from NOAA’s Grid Extract tool. The dataset captures the true underwater terrain of the lakes, providing an accurate physical representation of their depth and structure.

To enhance visibility, underwater features have been exaggerated by 16×. This brings out subtle lakebed details while preserving the surrounding terrain.

Two versions are included:

  • High-detail version – Best for finer prints (recommended layer height: 0.12 mm)

  • Standard version – Smaller file size with reduced detail

Bathymetric data was obtained from NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) Grid Extract tool: https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/maps/grid-extract/. All NOAA data is in the public domain.
