This organiser is designed to hold various sizes of tubes in a veterinary office as well as providing a place for some paperwork. This design was printed for a veterinary clinic in the Netherlands, not sure how easily this transfers to international sizes. (I'm not a vet myself)

Tube sizes

The organiser can store bottles/tubes in various sizes. Refer to the main image for a practical application.

From left to right in the image below:

  • 3 x 28mm diameter (cytology dyes)

  • 4 x 17mm diameter (holds urine samples/test tubes)

  • 5 x 13mm diameter (holds smaller test tubes)

  • 6 x 11mm diameter (hols the concave test tubes, bottom plate has a chamfer to easily center them)

The diameters given are the exact dimensions of the holes, take some margin

Requirements

  • Print all items per the instructions below.

    • 1 x L1.stl

    • 1 x L2.stl

    • 1 x L3.stl

    • 1 x BottomPlate.stl

    • 1 x Base.stl

    • 2 x B1.stl

    • 2 x B2.stl

    • 2 x B3.stl

  • Fasteners

    • 10 x M3 x 6 mm

    • 2 x M3 x 10 mm

    • 2 x M3 x 25 mm

    • 2 x M3 x 40 mm

  • Tools

    • Strongly recommended: M3 Thread tap

    • Strongly recommended: 3.2mm drill bit + drill

  • Feet

    • There are 11mm cutouts on the bottom to add small transparent rubber sticky feet. (see picture below)

Printing Instructions

Print the following:

1 x L1.stl

Print in the orientation below.

1 x L2.stl

Print in the orientation below.

1 x L3.stl

Print in the orientation below. Note that it may seem more logical to print this part flipped, however in my case I have a textured build plate and this puts the sparkly texture on-top, in line with all the others, making the look more consistent.

1 x BottomPlate.stl

Print in the orientation below.

1 x Base.stl

Print as below.

2 x B1.stl, 2x B2.stl, 2x B3.stl

Print the bed below twice, giving you two of each.

Assembly Instructions

Assembly is performed top-to-bottom. Refer to the image at the bottom for bolt locations.

  1. Remove the "fake ceilings" on all horizontal plates.
I've used a 3D printing trick to allow for printing of holes in mid air. This trick fills up some of the holes in the plates (L1, L2, L3 and BottomPlate and Base). Use the 3.2mm drill bit to carefully drill out these fake ceilings. Example:

  2. Drill the following holes in B1 and B3 (using the 3.2mm drill bit) Note that these pieces come pre printed with one smaller hole and one larger. Drill the larger hole.
This step is optional, but highly recommended to account for printer tolerances

  3. Tap the following holes in B1,B2,B3 (using the M3 tap). B1 and B3 come with a large and small hole, tap the small hole.
I recommend to just tap all the way through.
This step is optional, but highly recommended to account for printer tolerances

  4. Assemble the shelving from top-to-bottom following the diagram below.

    1. Attach L3 to B3 (using M3x6 bolts)

    2. Attach this entire structore to L2 (using M3x6 bolts)

    3. Attach this entire structure to B2 (using M3x25 bolts and M3x6 bolts)

    4. Attach this entire structure to L1 (using M3x6 bolts)

    5. Attach this entire structure to B1 (using M3x6 bolts)

    6. Attach this entire structure to BottomPlate AND Base (simultaneously) (using M3x40 bolts and M3x10 bolts)

Finally stick on the feet.
