The smaller puzzle has 72 pieces while the larger has 121. I used the 300mm radial puzzle cutter 2D vector file from my Jigsaw Puzzle Kit as the starting point for both cutters for this puzzle. I've included editable SVGs of my puzzle cutters for you to experiment with. For details on how to turn them into 3D files, see my Jigsaw Puzzle Kit that this was remixed from. Thanks goes to SolarSystemScope.com who published the free high resolution texture map I used as a displacement map to simulate the appearance of Saturn.

How does this work? As with my other puzzles, each puzzle consists of two STLs. One is the model that becomes the puzzle. The other is the cutter you can re-use the cutter for other models or print the main model as a single piece.

In this case, I have provided a single model that fits on a 200mm bed at 100%. To print it on a 300mm bed, just enlarge it to 150% (OK, I actually enlarged it to 150.15%. Close enough.) Add the appropriate cutter as a negative volume and align them to your liking. I've included my PrusaSlicer 3MF project files.

Print Settings:

  • Perimeters: 1

  • Perimeter Generator: Classic (Arachne works, but the pieces tend to stick together more, so separating them is more difficult)

  • Infill: 10% Rectilinear (Lightning works, but the pieces are more likely to break when you first separate them)

  • Bottom Layers: 2

  • Top Layers: 4

I use the PrusaSlicer .15mm Speed preset as a starting point. The 200mm puzzle prints on my Prusa CORE One L in about 4 hours. The 300mm puzzle takes about 11 hours.

To separate the pieces after the initial print, gently wiggle, twist & slide them apart. If they really stick, use a flexible & strong knife blade or thin screwdriver to pry them apart. Don't pry with hobby knives. Their blades are brittle and you may get hurt.
