Burr puzzles are an old and interesting genre with some interesting mathematical properties. An overview is available here.
There are designs for each of the 25 notchable Burr puzzles pieces, which should allow you to construct most of the most common puzzles. You can find a list of puzzles, and some suggestions for collections of pieces to try, here.
These pieces have the “cubies” marked; I find that this makes it a little easier to see the underlying geometry. They are each marked with the numbering system designed by Jürg von Känel. If you’d like to see other pieces or have any other suggestions, let me know!
