Simple, extensible, compact rack for rolled-up or cylindrical items such as:

  • Play mats for board games

  • Maps

  • Posters

  • Craft Supplies

  • Yard tools (rakes etc.)

Attach to the wall using anchors or screws into studs.  Sized for #8 x 1-1/2" screws or drywall anchors.

Materials/Tools needed:

  • #8 x 1-1/2" screws or hangers suitable for your wall (length is variable based on what you are attaching to)

  • Pencil

  • Bubble level or straight edge

  • Tape measure or yard stick

  • Drill and bit to start the holes

  • Screwdriver

Print:

  • "MapHanger_x2_and_parts"

  • "MapHanger_x2" for each additional level of hangers you need

  • If you want to use 3 or 4 verticals print correspondingly more

  • The "AdapterLeft" and "AdapterRight" pieces clip onto the hangers and extend 55 mm towards the center - I added these to support some really short maps without putting another row in.  They're fairly hefty and use more filament so it's up to you if you want to use them.

I used Black PETG-CF from 3DPrintingCanada - gave a really nice finish.

Starting with the top row, install the hangers as follows:

  • determine the distance between the 2 sides and trace vertical lines on the wall.  Bubble level works best for this.

  • mark the top hole of left and right hangers at the same height on the vertical lines.

  • drill the holes

  • if this is the top row of hangers, use the "TopEndCap" to provide a stronger mount and screw the hangers in at the top.  Do not over-tighten as the hanger may split, and you will need to rotate the hanger below.

  • use a pencil to mark the bottom hole location for these hangers

  • swing the hanger sideways, drill the bottom hole

  • swing the hanger back in line, add the next hanger below it overlapping at the hole, and screw them into the wall

  • repeat for every level you add

  • when installing the last bottom row, add the "BottomEndCap" piece over the bottom for a better attachment
