Rose Sock Knitting Ruler

Slide this ruler into your socks while knitting to get the perfect sized sock every time.

Edit 2026-07-31: Added US Women's in addition to the existing EU sizes. Cleaned up the model files a bit.

Edit 2026-08-17: Added a baby & kids version as a separate model: https://www.printables.com/model/1809817-sock-knitting-gaugeruler-baby-kids-edition-for-mea

Usage

  • 🌹 The "toe start" side (the one with the rose) is used while knitting and shows the point at which you need to start with the toe decreases for each size (you measure where the leaf meets the stem).

  • 🧦 The "foot length" side (the one with the socks) shows the length the final sock should have and also includes a normal ruler for reference.

Depending on the type of heel and toe you knit, the rose/side might also work for toe-up socks or for afterthought heels.

Printing

You can choose between

  • 🌈 multicolor-version with AMS/MMU

  • ⛰ single color with raised letters and optional manual filament changes

  • 🖨 or a traditional paper print version (A4 PDF) that you can print on cardboard or laminate

The length of the ruler is 31cm, so you can print it on a 25cm*25cm printer.

This print is split into two parts that you can then glue together.

Other Units/Shoe Size Systems

This ruler currently has the following versions:

  • EU shoe size and centimeters

  • US Women's shoe size and inches

Let me know if you'd like a version with different units or shoe size systems.

In the meantime, I've also added a separate version for baby and kids socks:
