Introduction

If you have Sonoff's SHZB-02Ps you can place them on ferromagnetic surfaces already, since they are magnetic. If you want to stick them to a non-ferromagnetic sheet (like the wall of a plastic container) you'll need a magnetic backside. This is it.

Versions

This model comes in two versions:

  • simple Version: This is just a piece of plastic with spaces for four 5x1mm magnets.

  • stronger Version: This version contains a M8 washer + four 5x1mm magnets for increased strength.

A comparison of the versions can be found in the table below.

The stonger version

The stonger version needs to be assembled in steps. The image below shows the progression.

  1. On the left side, you can see both printed parts.

  2. A washer (M8, ID: 8.4mm, OD: 16mm) is placed in between.

  3. Both sides are glued together with the washer.

  4. Magnets are added. They should be oriented in different directions, as indicated by the blue and red color.

Why is the stronger version stronger?

The washer redirects the magnetic field lines. The gist is: It gets stronger on the side with the magnets and weaker on the other side (where you don't need any magnetic fields). The downside: It's more complicated to print and assemble.

Which version should I use?

If you have just a thin sheet of material between the sensor and the backside, I'd advise printing the simple version. If you require more strength - try the stronger one. If you're curious... Why not both :)
