Micro Gliders Pack. Minimalist and Ultra Lightweight.
A collection of two unique hand launch micro gliders designed for quick printing and pure fun. Perfect for burning through those last meters of filament on your spool or testing your printers thin wall performance.
The pack includes two aerodynamic designs. The Organic Bird like Glider features elegant, curved wings for smooth, stable gliding. The Futuristic Dart is a sharp, aggressive design built for speed and straight lines.
Print Settings
To ensure the gliders actually fly, they need to be as light as possible. Please use the following sliced parameters. Layer Height: 0.12 mm to 0.24 mm. Variable layer height works great to keep the wings thin and crisp.
Perimeters and Walls: 1. Crucial for keeping the weight down.
Top Solid Layers: 3 to 5. Bottom Solid Layers: 3.
Infill: 0 percent. Material: PLA works best for rigidity, but feel free to experiment.
Brim: Not required if your bed adhesion is good, but use an inner or outer brim if the thin tail lifts.
Post Processing and Flight Tips
To achieve the best aerodynamic performance, a little post print tuning is required.
First, be gentle. Carefully remove the models from the build plate so you do not warp the thin wings.
Second, adjust the tail stabilizers. Gently bend the vertical edges or winglets on the tail stabilizer upward. This keeps the glider flying straight.
Third, adjust the wing flaps. This is crucial for stability. Use a hobby knife to carefully cut the sides of the pre designed flaps on the main wings, then score and bend them slightly downward. This creates camber, adds lift, and ensures a much more stable flight.
Fourth, do some fine tuning. If the glider still dives down too quickly, bend the flaps a tiny bit more. If it stalls, meaning it goes up sharply and falls, add a tiny piece of blue tack, a small paperclip, or tape to the nose.
Fifth, launch. Give it a gentle, straight toss forward into the wind. Enjoy flying, and do not forget to share your Makes and color combinations.
