Experience a classic toy re-engineered with precise mechanics! This Mechanical Spinning Top features an integrated launcher system utilizing a rack-and-pinion mechanism.
By pulling the rugged zip-cord/rack, the internal brass gears multiply the torque and speed, spinning the star-shaped top to high RPMs before cleanly releasing it from the handheld grip launcher. The aggressive, star-like perimeter design of the top makes it perfect for battles or long-duration spins.
All parts are designed to fit together cleanly, making it an engaging build and a highly functional mechanical toy.
Print Settings (Recommended)
Material: PLA or PETG (Using contrasting colors like Metallic Blue, Emerald Green, and Silk Gold makes the final assembly pop!)
Layer Height: 0.16mm - 0.2mm (Lower layer height recommended for the gears and rack to ensure smooth movement)
Infill: 20% - 30% (Use Gyroid infill for the spinning top to keep the weight evenly balanced for stable spins)
Wall Loops / Perimeters: 3 - 4 walls (Crucial for the gear teeth and the pull-cord to handle mechanical stress)
Supports: Needed only for the main handle grip depending on your printer's bridging capability. The gears and top print support-free.
Assembly Note
💡 Tip: Add a tiny drop of mechanical lubricant or silicone grease to the gear shafts during assembly. This will drastically reduce friction, making the launch much smoother and increasing the top's spin speed!
