Have you ever looked into an empty spot in your gridfinity setup and thought, "I should have a chess board in here."? of course you haven't, that's absurd! who would think something like that?

I would. Behold! a chess board small enough for almost any grid (as long as it is at least 2x2).

the single-piece print is more of a decorative object than a usable board, as it is almost impossible to get pieces that small to stay on the board.

the two-piece board separates the gridfinity base from the board, with a .5mm gap all around, and 1mm of depth in the well under the board. I did this to accommodate a ~65mm² steel plate, which would be glued into the base, with the board glued on top. assuming small enough magnets could be sourced, this could make the board actually usable*.

the boards are designed to be printed with a .12mm layer height, with filament swaps in the last layers to create the board (I recommend ironing). then scale your favorite chess pieces down until they're about 5mm around at the base. steady hands are a must for chess at these scales.

(*for certain, somewhat ridiculous definitions of "usable")
